1. Visit parks with multiple PokéStops
While you can find Pokémon just about anywhere, if you want to find lots of Pokémon, you want to go to a populated area. Cities are a pretty good starting point, but we prefer parks — especially parks with a good body of water, or saltwater beach parks — for the ultimate Pokémon catching experience. Different terrain will help you find different types of Pokémon, while parks with multiple PokéStops ensure that you won't run out of Poké Balls while hunting. (In our testing, PokéStops also encourage the spawning of more Pokémon — especially if you attach a lure.
2. Hunt in pairs
When Pokémon appear, they appear for everyone and can be caught by every person in your area. As such, hunting in pairs (or even groups) is encouraged: Not only is it fun to banter with friends while wandering your neighborhood for Pokémon, but you can also cover more ground as you try to figure out just where that three-footstep Kadabra might be hiding.
3. Hunt (safely) at night
First of all: Don't get stabbed or robbed. It's clearly not safe to go by yourself to a Lure-enabled PokéStop in the middle of a city at night. That said, you can smartly hunt in pairs or small groups at night to find Pokémon you wouldn't ordinarily find during the daytime — just stick to well-lit areas and have a car nearby. (I've been able to find quite a number of awesome Fairy-type Pokémon either by sitting in my house or wandering close by on nighttime walks with my dogs.)
4. Use your radar ring to discover Pokémon
As you wander the world, your avatar has a small pulsing ring that glows around them. This ring is your personal radar in the game: It's what determines whether you're close enough to a PokéStop or Gym to use it, and it's also what pulls nearby Pokémon out of hiding.
Once Pokémon appear in your Sightings screen, it should be within 700-1000 feet of your location: If you walk around sidewalks or streets in your area, your radar ring should bring it out of hiding. So no, you don't have to try and jump your neighbor's fence or run through graveyards to find wandering Pokémon — your radar should reveal them without any extra work on your part.
5. For random Pokémon spawns, look for moving leaves
Those green fluttering leaves have frustrated Pokémon Go players from the beginning: Does it mean a Pokémon's there? Nearby? Is it a red herring? From what we've been able to tell, those leaves indicate a Pokémon spawn point: If you hang out in that vicinity for long enough, you have a chance of seeing creatures not on your radar map appear. Note that I said "chance" — it's far from a guarantee of a rare Pokémon appearing. Those leaves also don't indicate the location of the current Pokémon you're tracking on the Nearby list; don't go chasing foliage in the hopes of catching that Drowzee.
6. Want to catch a lot of Pokémon quickly? Try parking lots
For whatever reason, Pokémon seem to love spawning in parking lots — especially if they're near PokéStops. I've had luck seeing four, five, and even six common Pokémon show up in the lot by our local Trader Joe's, as well as several gas stations.
7. When catching Pokémon, turn off AR
It's pretty awesome to see that Pikachu spawn on your coffee machine, but AR (augmented reality) can often make it more difficult to catch your creatures — and drain your battery, too. To keep your device steady and ready for anything, flip AR off — you can always turn it back on if you find a Pokémon in a particularly hilarious location.
8. How to get bonuses when throwing Poké Balls
When you try to catch a Pokémon, the goal is to toss your ball inside the shrinking ring around them and have it land on the Pokémon's head or nose. But there are special catch bonuses that can help improve (though not guarantee) your chances of keeping that Pokémon locked inside that Poké Ball rather than breaking free.
9: PokeBalls
Once you have unlocked a specific PokeBall, you will be able to get it randomly at PokeStops. Moreover, you will get some each time you level up in the game. Lastly, PokeBalls can be purchased for PokeCoins.
PokeBall
Unlocked At: Level 1
This is the default ball which you can use in order to catch a wild Pokemon. Its catch rate has a modifier of 1 which is standard.
Great Ball
Unlocked At: Level 12
This is the upgraded version of PokeBall which is x1.5 more successful in catching a wild Pokemon.
Ultra Ball
Unlocked At: Level 20
This is even more upgraded version of Great Ball and has a catch modifier x2 which means that it is twice as successful as compared to PokeBall.
Master Ball
Unlocked At: Around Level 30
This is the best item you have in order to catch a wild Pokemon. It has a success rate of 100 per cent which means that you will never fail to catch a Pokemon.

If you do not like to spend real money for buying in-game items, you can refer to our Pokemon Go PokeBalls farming guide to know how to get them without spending a dime.
Farming Pokemon Go PokeBalls by Leveling Up
One of the best ways of getting more PokeBalls in Pokemon Go is to constantly level up your trainer. There are a number of leveling up techniques in the game that include capturing more Pokemon, evolving Pokemon, and more.
Each time you level up in the game, you are awarded with a few PokeBalls as a reward! In case you are having difficulties in leveling up, make sure to check out our Pokemon Go Power Leveling Guide for more information.
Since you require PokeBalls in order to capture Pokemon, both of these methods go hand-in-hand!
Farming Pokemon Go PokeBalls by Visiting PokeStops
You will notice blue icons floating on your world map. These scattered blue icons represent PokeStops. If you close in the gap and reach these icons, they will change, signifying interaction.
Tapping these blue icons will show you a real picture, otherwise referred to as Photo Disc. Once you are in range, you simply need to rotate the Photo Disc and get yourself some free PokeBalls, Candies, and other goodies.
One important thing that you need to note here is that you get a limited amount of PokeBalls during a PokeStop trip and must wait about 10-15 minutes in order to get more.
Currently, this is the only legit way of farming PokeBalls since there is no limit as to how many times you can visit a PokeStop. Just continue to visit them again and again and you will be racking up PokeBalls in no time!
Farming Pokemon Go PokeBalls by GPS Spoofing
The first thing that you need to note is that this method only works on an Android device. To get started, you need to open up Developers Options in settings menu and check Allow Mock Locations.
Once you have done that, you need to download an app called Fake Location Spoofer Free. After downloading the app, you need to go to your Location Settings and select GPS Only under Mode Menu.
This will essentially allow you to trick Pokemon Go into thinking that you are in a new location and farm more PokeBalls. However, one important thing that you need to bear in mind is that the method works with rooted devices only.
If you do not have a rooted device (which voids the warranty and is not recommended) you should stick to other legit methods. Moreover, there is no saying whether using the mock locations will get you banned from the game’s servers or not – use it at your own risk!
10. Catching rare pokemons
How do you catch rare Pokemon?
The Nearby menu in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen shows how close a Pokemon is to you. When hunting the rare ones, you’ll want to track the creatures that appear greyed-out behind a silhouette. These are Pokemon you haven't caught yet, and thus they aren't recorded in your Pokedex. The closer the Pokemon is to you, the fewer footprints you'll see underneath the silhouette (3 footsteps = 300 metres, etc).
Make sure to keep the Nearby menu open and then circle the Pokemon you want to capture by clicking on it. The circled silhouette should shift up and down based on proximity to you (the more right and down the silhouette is, the farther it is from you). If the Pokemon is moving down the menu, walk away to see if it gets closer. Pokemon listed on the Nearby menu are always close by, so keep trying and looking.
Now, check out this guide to learn how to catch a Pokemon in general. For rare Pokemon, try to get the ring around the Pokemon as small as possible before flinging a Poke Ball. The smaller the ring, the more likely the Pokemon won’t escape from the ball. If the Pokemon does escape, just fling several Poke Balls at it before it has a chance to run away. That and pray to the Poke Gods is about all lower-level players can do.
Higher-level trainers upon hitting Level 7 can grab Razz Berries from PokeStops. Feed these to wild Pokemon to make them less likely to run away or escape Poke Balls. At Level 12, you can use more powerful Poke Balls (like Great and Ultra Balls). Wild Pokemon of all levels have difficulty escaping these balls. And if you feed a rare Pokemon a Razz Berry first, then fling a powerful ball at it, you'll likely be successful.
Are there any other tips and tricks?
Rare Pokemon change from location to location, and it depends on a number of factors, including player population density, proximity to certain types of landscapes, nearby landmarks, different times of the day, etc. Also, certain Pokemon dwell in areas related to their type. Psychic- and ghost-type Pokemon can be found near cemeteries, while fire- and ground-type Pokemon are more likely to appear in arid, desert climates.
Based on information culled from Reddit, Twitter, and our own experiences, here's other tips and tricks on how to find and catch rare Pokemon:
Walk a lot, and walk slowly.
Check unvisited lanes, undiscovered locations, and unpopulated areas.
Go to locations depending on the type of rare Pokemon you want to find.
Place lures at PokeStops to lure all nearby Pokemon to your area.
Use Incense to draw Pokemon if you're staying put in an area for 30 mins.
Look for rustling leaves in the game.
Continually check the near "Nearby" menu for Pokemon.
When you spot one, switch off the AR Camera (top-right corner of screen).
Throw a clean Poke Ball without excessive hand movements.
Make sure your phone has plenty of battery.
